SOUTHERN RIGHT WHALES migrate into the coastal waters around South Africa each year, arriving around mid-June and staying until mid-November. The males arrive first, followed by the females some weeks later. They come to these waters to mate and to calve; they do not feed while they are here as the waters around our coast does not support krill. The pregnant females are the last to arrive and are the last to leave with their young.
