Crayfishing

On this half day activity we allow you the opportunity to experience one of Cape Town’s great summer traditions, crayfishing from a boat off Kommetjie (Little Basin). Crayfish or red gold is a seafood delicacy that is synonymous with the Cape Peninsula and catching them is normally a privilege that is reserved for locals only.

On this fun and exciting activity that lasts about four hours we will take you to where the crayfish are and then show you how to bait and then set the nets before harvesting the catch. You will be amazed at the thrill of pulling the nets to reveal your catch of Cape Rock Lobster.

How we do it:

We supply all the equipment & bait required for you to catch Cape Rock Lobster.

You need to purchase a Crayfishing permit from a local post office which costs ZAR 95.00 each. This allows the holder of a single permit to catch 4 crayfish per day as per regulation displayed on the permit. You will need to supply an ID document when purchasing the permit.

If you do not have a permit and want to experience Crayfishing then you will receive two crayfish per person from the skipper.

The boat:

15 ft BABY BILLFISH powered by 2 x 30hp MERCURY outboards
This craft is perfect for launching at the narrow slipway and negotiating the deep water channels around the KOM (Basin).

Please note that crayfishing is seasonal and this activity is offered daily from 15th November to 31st December, and then on weekends up to and including 15th April. Crayfishing is strictly weather permitting and if bad weather happens on the day then the trip will be postponed until suitable conditions occur.
